12×12 | Happy Days

A while back, I had the idea to do a spiral design for a layout, but changed direction and had to save the idea for another day.  Then I saw, that my scrappy friend Enza Gudor posted a beautiful spiral design layout, and I knew I just had to use the idea with all of the embellishments in my Ain’t Life Grand collection!  There are so many fun die cuts with this collection and even with the amount I used on my layout, I still have a ton left over!

I started the layout by drawing a spiral shape in Adobe Illustrator.  Then I opened the saved PNG file in Silhouette Studio.  I used one of the Silhouette Sketch Pens to draw the spiral shape on my background paper, which is from the Crate Paper Chasing Dreams collection.  A neutral black & white patterned paper from any collection pairs well with the bright colors in the Ain’t Life Grand collection.  After the design was drawn, I selected a mix of the die cuts and started with one of the smallest ones at the center of the spiral.

I worked my way out from the center and worked in some of the cork embellishments, flair buttons and number wood veneers.  I also adhered some of the die cuts with pop dots to add varying dimension to the layout.  I cropped my photo into a circle and then cut around it with my small scissors.  And here’s a fun tip…I always like to have a white border around my photos, so when I do a circle photo, I cut a larger circle from photo paper on my Cameo and then adhere the photo to the center to get the border around it.  Once the photo and embellishments were all in place, I went back and machine stitched the embellishments that were adhered directly to the background paper.

You could also try this look with just a plain circle, heart shape, star shape, etc.  I really love the motion the spiral design adds to the layout, and that I was able to include so many different embellishments from the collection!
