Good morning everyone! We are so excited to welcome January’s guest designer, Jamie Leija, to the blog! We’ve loved her work for a while and we knew she’d create some awesome projects with our products…we were right 🙂
For today’s intro post we asked Jamie to answer a few questions and create a layout about herself:
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hiya! My name is Jamie Leija (said Lay-ha) and I’m excited to be guest blogging for Pretty Little Studio this month! I’m a native Texan who loves to travel and scrapbook. I’ve lived in London, Thailand and Spain and have been blessed to travel to so many more places. Traveling and scrapbooking go hand in hand for me. I love that one hobby supports the other and that scrapbooking lets me relive and share all of those fabulous memories. I’ve been published in Northridge Publishing’s Scrapbook Trends, CARDS and Create publications and a guest on three episodes of the Paperclipping Roundtable. When I’m not scrapbooking or on a plane, I’m spending time with my pets, boyfriend or adorable nephew.
When did you start scrapbooking?
Scrapbooking has been a big part of my life since I was very young. At 11 or 12 (too long to remember!) I went to a Creative Memories party with my mom and have been scrapbooking ever since! My first job in high school was for a local scrapbook store. I loved working there! And it helped me learn to love sharing this hobby with others. In college, I worked at Hobby Lobby and then another local scrapbook store.
What is your style?
My style is…varied! I make pages in all different sizes, I also mix pocket pages in. I like to play with mixed media sometimes and then other times I’m very neat. A few things that are consistent for me are color and texture. I like to play with scale and contrast too. I’d describe my style as graphic and colorful. I also do a lot with a little. If you look closely, you’ll notice that I’ve not used a ton of products.
When do you find time to scrap?
I have a demanding full time job and one that has me traveling a bit. But I don’t have little ones so that gives me lots of time to scrapbook on the weekends when I’m home. I would love to be able to scrapbook on week nights, but then I wouldn’t ever sleep! Scrapbooking turns on my brain on and I’ve noticed that if I scrapbook in the evenings I have trouble falling asleep.
What is your favorite PLS product?
I really really love all of the great printed vellum and transparencies! I used them 3/4 of my guest blogger projects this month.
Where to you get your inspiration?
Truly, the products themselves. It’s like a giant puzzle piece. I love the challenge of seeing how they work best together, what colors and textures compliment each other.
What is your favorite color to scrapbook?
I think it’s aqua/teal. It seems to be on all of my pages. But my favorite color is yellow. I also try to add as much black and white to my pages as possible. I love the contrast and it feels really classic too!
List 5 fun facts about you.
1. I don’t drink coffee. I think I’ve only had a few sips over the course of my life.
2. As I kid, I never believed in Santa Claus and also never went trick or treating.
3. I’ve walked a 10k on the Great Wall of China.
4. I went to college in Austin. Back when the city was actually weird!
5. I have a room full of skeletons. Not really, I collect Día de los Muertos paper cache dolls and other DdlM decor.
Isn’t her layout made with the Hello Heather Here + There collection awesome?!?! We’ve loved getting to know Jamie better today. Keep coming back over the next few days to see more of her inspiring work. In the meantime, make sure you follow Jamie on her social media sites:
