Technique (pastel distressing)

Hello Pretty Little Studio fans! It is Malika on the blog today. Sometimes I love to use a picture for nothing more than color inspiration. I used today’s picture to help me choose the colors for my layout, 25. Lately I have really liked to keep a clean white background. I added some woodgrain paper and tags and accented with light mint. The woodgrain vellum (one of my favorite products these days) allows this layout to remain light and airy by letting the white background show through. The animals from the Woodland Christmas line and Nature Walk line give a playful twist to it and that is also shown in the picture of my daughter playing with her ponies on Christmas morning. Finally I have used a bingo number 25, but also stitched on some tone on tone 25s that show very subtly for a title.
The inspiration photo made me want to get my hands dirty and distress some paper. I cut some long strips of paper from the Nature Walk collection and distressed them by wetting the edges and crinkling them. I then cut some half inch strips into both papers, without cutting all the way through. I weaved the two papers together and then curled them around a small paint brush. The curls were glued down, just in case, but I really think they would have held their shape anyway. I attached my photo, added some paint splotches, and attached the sweet little deer. The Nature Walk papers lend themselves quite well to being distressed and I was so excited to finish this layout!
It turned out just as a I pictured it.
