Sketch Challenge #19

Leave a link to your layout/card/project below. We would love to see your creations!

One person will be randomly chosen to receive a $5 coupon

This week we challenged Laura and Jen to create Layouts with this sketch.

Jennifer Chapin

When I received my package of Jingle Bells goodies in the mail, I couldn’t wait to dive in and create a project! I used the sketch this week to make a Christmas card. Don’t you just love the North Pole patterned paper? I think it’s one of my favorites of the bunch.
Get started on your Christmas cards early this year, Maybe by the time Christmas rolls around you’ll have a stash of handmade cards to send out.:)

Laura Achilles

I love that the soft colors of this collection allowed me to use a variety of colored flower accents to match perfectly with my photos

photochic - Made a card with the sketch! Thanks for another fun challenge!

Happy Halloween

I had so much fun creating this mini paper bag album! Rather then use the traditional paper bag format I turned the bag on it’s side and trimmed the tops and bottom using a decorative edge. I used lemon slices, mini word flashcards and a velvet ribbon binding to make this tiny album complete. Rather than fill the album with photos, I filled it with journaling about my feelings about the Halloween holiday. What do I like about the holiday? What do I hate? What are my favorite Halloween childhood memories?

Sometime when we scrapbook we become lost in the rush to scrap the last vacation, or a milestone event and don’t realize that we are missing the bigger story…our bigger story…the story of us. The true story isn’t how cute you looked in your Halloween costume, or how great the decorations were at the party… it’s why you chose that Halloween costume and why you went to that party. Why did you choose to dress up as a princess? Why are the people at the party so important? I found in creating this little album that I had conflicting feelings on the Halloween holiday that I never would have discovered without taking the time to pause…and reflect on my story…and not simply the details.
Have you taken the time to scrapbook the true story lately rather than simply the rush of daily details and events?Have you been focusing on your story? We would love to see your stories! Please post a link in the comments or visit our Pretty Little Studio facebook page to share your story with us.

These fun happy papers from the Scrumdiddlyumptious line were perfect for this layout about my daughter playing at the park. One great idea for using 8×8 patterned papers in your scrapbooking is to block them, sort of like you would a quilt! Try sewing down the edges too for added texture.

How to make a Pillow Box

To create this gift box I used a forgotten package from the jewellery store and re-purposed it as a template. Here is a link to your own Pillow box Template

Undo the box and trace around the outside edges, marking the foldlines as well. Score the fold-lines and cut around the outside edges. Trim two finger holes on two ends of the box and adhere it together on the side.

Decorate the gift box to suit the person you are giving it to and thoroughly enjoy the smile from the lucky recipient…x

“I was immediately inspired by the the long pennant flag and the circles on the gift bags. And although the circles aren’t in the same position as in the inspiration photo, I love that they still feature on my layout!”

Robyn Schaub

I’m a big fan of all the paper ribbons in my Pretty Little Studio collections, and the photo inspired me to pair some of my Tiny Paper Ribbons with Kraft cardstock and green patterned paper to create this fun little birthday card.

Sketch Challenge #18

Leave a link to your layout/card/project below. We would love to see your creations!

One person will be randomly chosen to receive a $5 coupon

This week we challenged Celine, Irit and Karen to create Layouts with this sketch.

Irit Shalom

Here are some products I used and some tips: The papers are from the April Showers Collection: Rose bed, Clover, Water Ripples and the shaped paper. I pleated 2 strips of different kinds of paper pleating on the edge. I border punched the matting with MS border punch and added 2 kinds of pleated ribbons under the photo. I made a garland from the Homespun Lemon Sliced Garland. I used 2 round tags from the Fresh Eggs Vintage Tag set as my title and under it, I stacked the title “You sure did”. A Blue bingo card was added under the cluster. Flags from the Celebrate Paper Ribbons were added over the pleated strips. Now for the fun part: I painted all over this page, some blue and light pink dropped in a messy ice cream look!

Karen Lim

To obtain the pretty torn paper edge, I used a Torn Edges No.2 set from Erica Zwart available at MScraps. The set included easy-to-follow instructions, which allowed me to obtain a very pretty torn edge. It’s an easy way to add texture to your layout. For the kitty element, I “cut” it out from the tag using my Scizzor tool.

Celine LeGuay

I love this sunny paper, perfect for talking about autumn in France. Here it looks more like summer then October.
