Alyssa McGrew

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a mom of 2 (ages 6 and 4) who are the inspiration for most of my creations, and the reason why I don’t get to create as much as I would like! I have been married to Don for 8 years and we live in a small Midwest town. When not creating, I enjoy reading, cooking, and tickling my kiddos just to hear their giggles.

When did you start scrapbooking? I started shortly after my daughter was born 6 years ago. I really wanted a way to capture the memories beyond recording dates in a baby book, and so I jumped in. It didn’t take long before I was scrapbooking every nap time. And now nap times are obsolete… sigh.

What is your style? My style is hard to pin down, I think, because I am usually inspired by the products I use. However, some things remain the same- my love of layers, paint, mist, and stencils. I usually use a lot of all of the above, but there is always an element of clean and crisp in my pages too.

When do you find time to scrap? Whenever I can! Weekend afternoons and late in the evenings are the most common times. I can’t get much done in the mornings, since my creativity only awakens after I’m at least halfway through my to-do list.

What is your favorite PLS product? The 1″ vintage circle tags! I love those little images!

Where to you get your inspiration? Mostly from online galleries, although I rarely scraplift. I usually see a technique I want to try, or a color palette that resonates with me, and I’m off!

What is your favorite color to scrapbook? It’s not really about one color for me, but more about color combos! I love palettes with lots of contrast, and colors that a little less then ordinary.

List 5 fun facts about you.
  • I love coffee, but can’t drink it much now (I lost my taste for coffee when pregnant) (Boo!)
  • I drive a gold car. And by gold, I mean GOLD. It’s easy to find in the parking lot, but no, it wasn’t my choice.
  • I (apparently like to live on the edge. While creating, I set my water (drinking glass) right beside my paintbrush water. My husband tells me that is asking for trouble. So far, no disasters have resulted!
  • I hate all things “Diet.” Can’t stand the artificial sweeteners.
  • Mt least favorite household task: Mopping and dusting. I’d much rather do bathrooms, or just about anything else.
