Hello scrappers! My name is Joleen Thiessen and I am super excited to be guest designing for Pretty Little Studio!! I had a blast working with Christmas at HOME and can’t wait to share my projects with you. A little about me:

I was born and raised in Southern California, spent the last year in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be moving to set up home there after the first of the year. I am a professional photographer and dabbler of all things crafty. Over the past decade I’ve co-published a mixed media art zine called Portals and have participated on design teams for several scrapbooking kit and stamp clubs.

Inspired by my aunt’s photo albums, scrapbooks, and old letters, I began documenting my life around age 12. I started keeping journals about my day to day life and putting photos and ephemera together in a static album. At age 17 I was scrapbooking with Creative Memories, where it was all about stickers and then I was introduced to rubber stamping through Stampin’ Up!. Soon after that I stumbled into mixed media art. Imagine my thrill with finding an outlet which welcomes all mediums! Today my art and scrapbooking, alike, are a culmination of all my loves. Right now, I especially love both machine and hand stitching on my layouts and projects!

I don’t really know that I have scrapping style. I’m eclectic in my crafting and think that my layouts reflect that. I honestly don’t really find time for scrapping very often these days. This year has mostly been about getting ready for baby. I usually make time when I have a specific project I have to work on. It’s impossible to have just one favorite Pretty Little Studio product! I come from the belief that “more is more” so I love all the different embellishments, especially the die cuts and flashcards. The journaling spots are great too- very versatile! I’m sure people say this a lot but I get inspiration from everywhere. I’m inspired by nature, print ads, crafty blogs, fun products, bold prints, and color. Pinterest is great for keeping and organizing good ideas and I utilize that a lot.

Five fun facts about me: I’m expecting my first baby this month! I’m marrying my best friend next month! I turn 30 in the Spring and my birthday is St. Patrick’s Day which is always fun! I’ve driven across country twice in the last year and went on a road trip to the country’s capitol with my bestie in May!

Projects: Last November my grandparents took me to the Biltmore House in North Carolina to see it decorated for Christmas. It was my first time there and it was absolutely spectacular. When walking on the grounds before we left I snapped this photo of my grandparents. I could not love it more! They hold such a special place in my heart and I wanted to document that in this layout. The second project is a gift tag utilizing the journaling tags and garland tags. Very simple, satisfying, and perfect for adding to any Christmas package!
